Who publishes this site
This website is published by Montrivay, a fifty-two room hotel at 41 rue du Marché-Finlay, Québec, QC G1K 0A0, Canada. The hotel is the controller of any personal information handled through the site. Questions go to reception, in person, on +1 418 692 0471, or by email to [email protected].
What this site is not
There is no booking engine here: no reservation can be completed on the site and no payment of any kind is taken through it. You cannot create an account or set a password, and no profile is stored against your name. Nothing is sold through these pages. The gaming floor on the second floor of the hotel is land-based and nothing connected with it happens online.
What is collected
If you only read
Nothing is collected about you as a person. No tracking script runs before you choose, and if you decline or ignore the cookie bar, no measurement happens.
The two values stored in your browser
Two small values may be written to your browser's own local storage. They stay on your device and are not sent anywhere, and we cannot read them from here:
- qc_age_ok: set to "yes" after you confirm on the home page that you are 18 or over, so the question is not repeated on your next visit.
- qc_consent: set to "granted" or "denied" when you answer the cookie bar, so that the bar does not come back.
If your browser blocks storage, or you are in a private window, both writes fail without any message and the questions are asked again on your next visit.
Server logs
The company that hosts the site keeps standard web server logs: the requesting IP address, the date and time, the file requested, the response code, the amount of data sent, and the browser's user-agent string. These are produced automatically by the web server, are used to keep the site running and to investigate abuse, and are not combined with anything else to identify a reader.
The contact form
If you write to us through the form on the contact page, we receive the name, email address, subject, dates and message text you typed. That is all we receive, and it goes to the shared reception mailbox. Please do not send card numbers, passport or health insurance numbers, or anything else you would not put on a postcard. We never ask for those by email.
Analytics and advertising
No analytics or advertising tag is installed on this site at the time of writing. The pages do carry Google Consent Mode defaults, which set advertising storage, advertising user data, advertising personalisation and analytics storage to denied before anything else loads. If a Google Analytics 4 or Google Ads tag is added in future, it will stay switched off until you press Accept, and the Cookie Policy will be updated first.
Why we are allowed to do this
- Consent: for analytics and advertising storage, which happen only after you press Accept and which you can withdraw at any time.
- Legitimate interest: for server logs, which are needed to run and defend the site.
- Taking steps at your request: for answering a message you sent us, including holding a room while we write back.
- Legal obligation: where Québec or federal law requires us to keep something, for instance in relation to the gaming floor or to tax.
How long it is kept
- Browser storage values: until you clear your browser, or one year, whichever comes first.
- Server logs: 30 days in normal operation, longer only where an incident is being investigated.
- Contact form messages: 12 months from the last reply, then deleted from the mailbox.
- Correspondence attached to an actual stay: kept with the hotel's own records for the period Québec and federal law require.
Who else sees it
Our hosting provider, as processor, holds the server logs. Our email provider, as processor, holds the contact mailbox. We do not sell this information, so nobody buys it from us, and no advertising network is given it. We would hand something over to a public authority only where the law obliges us and after checking that the demand is valid.
Where it is held
The site and the mailbox are hosted in Canada. If a processor moves data outside Canada we require contractual protection of a standard at least as high as the one that applies here, and we will say so on this page.
Your rights
You may ask what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask for a correction, ask for it to be deleted, ask us to stop using it, or object to a particular use. You may withdraw consent for measurement at any time using the Cookie settings control in the footer of every page. Write to reception and tell us what you want; we answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec, or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Children
This site is written for adults. The gaming floor is 18 and over and the home page asks your age before showing anything else. We do not knowingly collect information about children through the website, and if a message reaches us that plainly came from a child we delete it and do not reply.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and is a set of static files with no database behind it. The reception mailbox is reached with two-factor authentication by named members of staff only.
Changes
When this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it and the previous wording is replaced. A change that affects what is collected or why will also be announced by a line on the home page for at least 30 days. There is no mailing list, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from.
