Second floor · evenings only
Montrivay Casino
Our casino takes up the second floor of this building, above the rooms on the first landing and below the roof. It is part of the hotel and run by the hotel's own staff, and there is no entrance from the street. You don't need to put a coat on to reach it.
Upstairs there is one room, with a few tables and a bar along the inside wall. On a quiet Tuesday in February you may be one of nine people in it. It is a small place and we describe it that way.
Getting there
The stone stair beside reception
There are two ways up from the lobby. The stone stair starts immediately to the left of the reception desk, turns once at a half-landing with a window onto the courtyard, and arrives at the door. It has thirty-four shallow steps and a handrail on the wall side. The lift is in the corner of the lobby behind the luggage rack, and it opens onto the same landing, four metres from the door.
Guests don't have to go outside to reach the casino. It is under the same roof as the rooms, and you come in by the same front door.
If you're not staying with us you're still welcome. You come in through the same lobby, and reception will point you to the stair.
What the room is like
A few tables and a bar
The ceiling is low and crossed by beams, the plank floor creaks on the river side, and the shutters are closed from dusk. The tables sit in the middle under hanging lamps, and the bar runs along the courtyard wall serving the same drinks as downstairs. No windows face the street at that height, so the casino is dark and quiet, and a little warm.
It opens in the evenings only. Doors are at seven, with last admission at one in the morning on Friday and Saturday and at midnight the rest of the week; the tables close half an hour after that. It is shut on the 24th and 25th of December.

Dress
Tidy is all we ask
You don't need a collar, but you do need to be clean, dry and tidy. That rules out ski boots, wet outer layers, sportswear, bare chests and hoods worn up. Coats and boots go on the rack at the top of the stair, since the room is small and the floor wasn't laid for slush.
This is a hotel casino, and the dress rule is there to keep the floor dry. Bags larger than a shoulder bag stay at reception. Nobody is photographed on the floor and phone cameras stay in pockets, so staff will ask you to put a handset away if it comes out at a table.
Age and identification
Eighteen, and your card every time
The legal gambling age in Québec is 18. The door of this casino is staffed whenever it is open, and photo identification is checked on every visit, however many times you have been before. A driving licence, a passport or a provincial card is accepted. A photograph of a document on a phone is not.
We check people who have been coming for years. The staff aren't being awkward: it's the rule the floor runs on, and it applies to everybody, hotel guests included.
Nobody under 18 may come up the stair while the floor is open, even just to look. The room has no under-age area.
Limits
Set on the floor, by the people running it
Staff on duty set the table limits in the room, and we don't publish them here because they change with the night and with who is at the table. Ask before you sit down: the dealer or the duty manager will tell you, and nobody minds being asked. People who sit first and ask afterwards can end up somewhere they didn't mean to be.
You can also ask staff to hold you to a limit of your own for the evening, or to a time. They write it down and keep to it. If you'd like a break in the middle of the night, say so and the bar will find you a chair away from the tables.
The gaming floor gives no credit, and there is no cash machine upstairs or anywhere else in the building.
Stopping
Self-exclusion is arranged at reception, in person
To be kept off the floor, come to the reception desk and say so. A member of staff on duty takes the request face to face, and it takes a few minutes. You choose how long it lasts. The record is kept at reception and at the door, and the door staff hold to it.
There is no form for this on the website, and it isn't handled over the telephone. The desk is staffed at every hour of the day and night, and the conversation can be as short as you like.
The same works for a single evening: hand your card in at the door on your way past and you won't be let through until the next day.
How we handle thisTo be clear
A land-based room, in person only
Play happens in one room, on the second floor of the hotel in Québec City, in front of staff. There is no app, account or remote version of it. This website is a description of a hotel with a casino in it.
This site offers no games and takes no bets, stakes, deposits or withdrawals, and it accepts no payments of any kind. Nothing on it can be played, wagered or funded. If a page elsewhere claims to be an online version of this room, it isn't ours.
Please check what the law allows where you are. We can speak only for a licensed, land-based casino inside a hotel in Québec.
Questions
Ask downstairs
Questions about the floor, the hours, the tables or the door policy are answered at reception: at the desk, by telephone on +1 418 692 0471, or by writing to [email protected]. If reception can't settle it, the duty manager comes down.
